For me, it was not a single decision, but something that I came to as the result of reading many articles listing the drawbacks in eating refined foods. Also, I know that such foods are 'supposed' to be more satisfying, but I've never found them so.
I admit I'm not perfect, but it seems to me that focusing on eliminating refined sugar from 98% of my diet helps me feel better about a piece of cake or scoop of ice cream every now and then.
